Most important steps which can be taken to control the soil erosion in hilly areas: (i) Contour ploughing: this refers to ploughing along contour lines. (ii) Terrace farming: construction of steps along the hilly areas by cutting the rock layers to reduce the flow of rivers. (iii) Plugging of gullies to prevent gully erosion.

One of the most common soil erosion prevention methods is vegetation. It is the simplest and most natural way to prevent erosion control through planting vegetation. Plants establish root systems, which in turn, stabilizes the soil, preventing erosion. On the other hand the softer approaches and can be established by Government like bioengineering method, that use live vegetation and woody material for bank stabilization. It is often less costly.

All the Indian farmers are not well educated because they have lack of facilities and other basic amenities . And sometime they may be pressurized from other landowner also . sometime the quality of the soil is also responsible for there farming . India have different type of soil quality such as loamy soil, clayey soil etc. Which can affect the quality of the product that is being supposed to be grown by a Farmer.

When the soil is saturated or unable to absorb more water. Plants also help absorb some of the water in the soil. These effects make it harder for water to wash the soil away. Plants also help reduce erosion in other ways, such as breaking the wind that might blow dry top soil away. In Assam it is very much required.

To control soil erosion we(those who reside in the hill sides) can plant trees like bamboo. Bamboo trees have strong and wide roots to hold soil together.

Also our very own tea plants along with some vetch (shrubs) can be planted by the hill sides.
