At a time, when people are championing equality for girl children, a section of the society still regards the girl child as a liability. The thinking that boys deserve more than girls arises from our age-old societal construct. Cases of female foeticide, violation of basic human rights, physical and mental abuse, gender inequality, etc., are still prevalent and yet to be fully erased.
It is our duty to create a healthy environment for the girl children where they can grow without any fear and humiliation. A girl with proper access to resources today will become an empowered woman tomorrow. She should be able to pursue her dreams without any inhibitions.

On the occasion of National Girl Child Day, MyGov Assam seeks your suggestions on how can the various stakeholders contribute toward all round development of the girl children? Do you think the society is still lagging behind in ensuring safety for the girls? Why should we save girl child?
Because without her we cannot think about our existence. So, in order to save humans from extinction we have to take measures to save girl child. It is a common practice in India where people abort or kill girl child on birth. But they should be saved given equal opportunity and respect and opportunity to go ahead in life.

What is the importance of girl child in India?
It is very important to educate girls because education can mould the life of a woman in a considerable way. She can make correct decisions regarding her career, marriage and family on her own. She would recognize her rights in society and act upon them as per her conscience.

What are the values of a girl child?
A girl child needs to be mentored and taught the proper values that she will improve her self worth. A girl child needs to be provided for cared, cherished and loved. A girl child needs to be affirmed repeatedly that she is priceless.

Why are girls important in the home?
She plays a key role in the preparation and serving of meals, selection and care of clothing, laundering, furnishing and maintenance of the house.She organizes various social functions in the family for social development. She also acts as a director of recreation.

Women are naturally more social and thus more inclined to help those around them.
We should respet, cooperate and help to them in every situation because they take care elders, relatives, family members and children in the family and society.
