At a time, when people are championing equality for girl children, a section of the society still regards the girl child as a liability. The thinking that boys deserve more than girls arises from our age-old societal construct. Cases of female foeticide, violation of basic human rights, physical and mental abuse, gender inequality, etc., are still prevalent and yet to be fully erased.
It is our duty to create a healthy environment for the girl children where they can grow without any fear and humiliation. A girl with proper access to resources today will become an empowered woman tomorrow. She should be able to pursue her dreams without any inhibitions.

On the occasion of National Girl Child Day, MyGov Assam seeks your suggestions on how can the various stakeholders contribute toward all round development of the girl children? Do you think the society is still lagging behind in ensuring safety for the girls? What are some steps you believe could help spread awareness toward safeguarding rights, dignity and aspirations of the girl child?

Why do girls in rural areas not get education?
The main reason behind denial of education for rural women has been due to the poor status of their family and lack of schools in their village. The study also shows that as the family income increases there is a rise in the level of attainment of education among the rural women.

They need to be empowered in all walk of life. In order to fight against the socially constructed gender biases, girls & women have to swim against the system that requires more strength. Such strength comes from the process of empowerment and empowerment will come from the education and rural transformation will come from girl's education.

Education is very important for every child whether boy or girl. It is a matter of great sorrow that some communities still discriminate against the education of the girl child. Education is the key factor for girls' empowerment, prosperity, development and welfare. There is continued inequality and vulnerability of girls in all sectors-economic, education, social, political, health care, nutrition, right and legal etc. Girls oppressed in all spheres of life.
