Control soil erosion by planting indigenous trees

Our soil is our life giver. As we enter the monsoon season, soil erosion becomes a matter of grave worry for all, especially for people and livestock near hilly areas and river banks. If there is a loss in the fertile top soil, the productive capacity of the land gets compromised which in turn poses a huge risk to our food security. Some of the human-induced factors of soil erosion are felling of trees with deep roots to clear space for construction, deforestation, loss of vegetation, rapid urbanisation, etc.

Even though soil erosion is a natural phenomenon, we can reduce its impact by planting more trees and bushes which are good in holding the soil together, planting grass and creepers in and around farmlands and riverbanks, spreading mulch on bare grounds, building embankments, etc.

Share with MyGov Assam your take on how soil erosion can be minimised by plantation of indigenous trees along the riverbanks and hilly areas. You may also share any success story in this regard along with relevant photographs/videos.

All the Indian farmers are not well educated because they have lack of facilities and other basic amenities . And sometime they may be pressurized from other landowner also . sometime the quality of the soil is also responsible for there farming . India have different type of soil quality such as loamy soil, clayey soil etc. Which can affect the quality of the product that is being supposed to be grown by a Farmer.

All farmers all over the country should be made aware of the drawbacks of chemical fertilizers and pesticides which kill the nutrients of the soil, contamination of water and unsafe crops.
This journey which is known as Bihar Living Soils (BLS) ecological agriculture model while not easy it has been fruitful. The fundamental essence of the BLS model is to rejuvenate the soil. To bring back biodiversity for that we have to decide to replace poisonous agrochemicals with ecological fertilisers.

Falling of trees during thunderstorms & monsoon may be due to the imbalanced load of branches. Periodic trimming may save the road side root-out incidents and falling of trees at the slanting locations. Bamboo cultivation is a better option because of it's less self
load with higher root penetration.
Perhaps Kharghuli incident was due such a reason where a tree fell down along with a huge quantity of red soil amounting a huge load on the victim.d

In this modern era of sophisticated science ,we have always looked for opportunities to transcend our conditions deeply routed as human impulse but in these hustle we have forgotten the very fact that our soil is our identity , it is the connector to real selves. If we look at the geographic conditions, the annual floods are the very reason to outcomes of soil erosion . So i feel promoting afforestation and indigenous ways in coping the situation might help but it requires great commitment & will
