Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu is celebrated on Sankranti (the day Sun transmigrates from one Rāshi to another) of Pausha, the 10th month in Hindu calendar. Uruka is celebrated on the eve of Bhogali Bihu where families and friends get together to reinvigorate familial bonds and feast on mouth-watering delicacies. The bhelaghor or meji prepared for the day is consigned to flames by the eldest member of the family early morning next day after bathing. This ritual is going on since ages.

As in previous years, this year too, Assam is all set to celebrate Bhogali Bihu with full gusto. Hectic preparations are on as families and friends get together to prepare laroos, pithas and other mouth-watering delicacies, along with mejis and bhelaghors.

If you too have started preparations for the upcoming Bihu festivities, send us pictures or videos of your preparations (meji/bhelaghor, laroo, pitha, etc). These will be shared across social media handles of MyGov Assam.

Send us your photos/videos in the Comments section below or upload them and tag MyGov Assam.
