Due to various socio-economic reasons, the city has experienced a huge increase in population, which has resulted increased number of vehicles.
Each day the number of vehicles that ply on the Guwahati city streets are increasing which aggravates traffic congestion and accidents. Considering the immediate need to maintain a free-flowing traffic in Guwahati, MyGov Assam solicits suggestions from the citizens on how to tackle the problems relating to traffic.

12. Schools/colleges should either have their own parking facility. Parents come to receive their children in car & park it in 'NO Parking Zone' creating chaos for others or schools should come up with an alt. solution
13.City bus timings should be extended to at least 11:30PM or12 midnight

8. A mandate should be passed where passerby or private vehicle owners can take a note of the bus no. halting in the middle of the road. This created congestion
9. No malls or commercial complex should be permitted to open in the city anymore. This is the main cause of traffic.
10. Heavy trucks, bulldzoers etc. should be allowed in the city only after 10 PM
11. Multiple strips should be installed near zebra crossing as vehicles hardly stop to let passerby go

5. Luxury AC city buses be introduced with a slight higher ticket price than the regular ones & AC bus stop (if it suits the budget) for those luxury buses. This may encourage the car owners to ditch their own private cars & opt for public buses. A bus pass/recharge card is also a good option
6. AC Bus stop can be accessed by those who has the card/pass by swiping it
7. Honking unnecessarily should me made a heinous offence & should be fined

The traffic can be brought under control in following ways:

1. Strict traffic rules. Violation of traffic should be immediately fined
2. Orderliness should be maintained & any vehicle overtaking or breaking the line should be heavily fined. This is one of the main reasons for traffic congestion
3. Smart police should really become become smart in real sense. It is often seen that public bus drivers pay no heed to them
4.City buses should take the left route

try the idea given in the diagram.Build a divider separating a lane solely for buses. And on the remaining part rest of the vehicles can ply. This idea can be implement right now on gs road as the road is wider than most of the roads in Guwahati.

People crossing roads without any sort of organization contribute a lot to traffic jam. One man crossing a road by stopping a car can cause a heavy jam 1 or 2kms away. Zebra crossing is the proper solution.

Seperate lanes for city buses in bus stops should be introduced.

Parallel parking should be made a must and in over crowded areas like paltan bazar and fancy bazar, no parking should be allowed at all. Multi-specialty parking lots that are already built in those areas must be utilised.

1) 3months course on traffic related issues before providing driving licences. Any person applying for the driving licence, he/she must have proper knowledge about the traffic jam and it's issue.
2) Strict actions against the vehicles parked in the "NO PARKING AREA". According to me, cancellation of driving licence of the driver will be much appreciated, if possible.
3) Appoint well-trained Driver & Conductor in city buses.
4) Monitoring traffic through CCTV camera 24x7.
5) Digital Parkin..

The cab are also a major issue, on asking many drivers they said ola, uber n other cab services have more than 10000 cabs in guwahati, with the present structure n layout of the road along with the city bus nuisance n parking all over the guwahati, these numbers of cars provide a good support to the jam in guwahati.
The traffic police had to present a clear brief report before the government taking all these factors into consideration

1. No parking must be strictly imposed on and around all the sides of all the crossings of the city so that it will ease the flow of traffic thru the crossings.

2. Demarcation of Bus Stops has been done, but no bus stops there. Fencing should be done at the bus stops creating a lane for buses. This will stop overtaking of buses on the bus stands to grab passengers, especially on bus stops like fancy bazar and paltan bazar

3. Monitoring of timings of Bus Stoppage thru CCTV cameras.
