The thought of board exams nearing may lead to stress to many students and parents. At times, it is often seen that students suffer the most due to their lack of stress management skill, leading to physical and psychological distress in the form of anxiety, overthinking, eyes strain and even body ache, which hampers their performance in exams.

Besides, some parents are too much consumed by the idea of being their children to be one of the best performers in their batch or school or their neighbourhood. The children are pushed into a rat race that sometimes leads to serious repercussions.

MyGov Assam, in order to de-stress the board examinees, is inviting ideas from parents, teachers and all others concerned to exchange their ideas and tips on overcoming exam stress so that the students perform their best.

Take regular breaks and schedule in fun things to look forward to
Even the most intense exam timetables will allow a little time for a study break. This can include 20-minute breaks during your revision day, and longer activities that you can look forward to. Go out for dinner with friends, go to the cinema, attend a gig,

Exercise can help boost energy levels, clear the mind and relieve stress. It does not matter what it is – walking, cycling, swimming, football and dancing are all effective.

The biggest need is that parents should never compare their children by showing the availability of any other children, rather they should be comforted and encouraged to do well next time and at the same time keep the atmosphere free at home during the examination. Only then will the children be able to study stress-free and the results will also be good.

Combining study with activities of fun for 10 mins every 2 hours will help in studying with a relaxed mind. Starting to prepare months in advance will provide flexibility in making a timetable balancing study, leisure and relaxation. My suggestions to parents is that they should desist from making comparisons with others and help the child in identifying his or strengths and work on improving weaknesses. They shall help the child in preparing for exams with positive frame of mind.

My suggestion is that the students must look at exam as a self-assessment activity to identify one's strength and weaknesses. Students need to have a balanced approach towards exams and look at exams as stepping stones to success. It is advisable to start preparing for exams well in advance to avoid last minute tensions. Rest, leisure, relaxation must be as much part of one's timetable. Studying with breaks of 15 mins every 2 hours will help in preparing without stress and breakdown. Contd.....
