Every year on 5th of June, the world unites together to spread global awareness about various environmental concerns and bring about positive changes to protect our Mother Earth. A flagship programme of the United Nations with different themes every year, World Environment Day has been acting as a catalyst in raising awareness towards various environmental issues, climate change and global warming for more than 40 years. Keeping in with the same spirit of World Environment Day, Government of Assam on this wonderful day also strives to inculcate a sense of environmental consciousness in the people towards protection, conservation and restoration of our planet.
With the sole aim to foster and enable transformative changes, Government of Assam has taken up various initiatives in the past such as taking necessary steps towards making environment education a vital part of the school curriculum in the state, adoption of wildlife conservation initiatives, laying special emphasis on prevention of rhino poaching at Kaziranga National Park, planting of numerous saplings across the entire expanse of the state, encouraging the mass to practise sustainable development and also preserve the rich bio-diversity of the state for posterity.
On the occasion of World Environment Day on 5th June, Government of Assam is seeking suggestions and feedback and a roadmap from the citizens on ways to transform Assam into a greener, better and pollution-free state.

Plant tees, throw seeds of fruits eaten during summer on roadsides while travelling, keep water outside for birds during summer season.
These are the most basic thing a simpeton can do.
Regarding deforestation, the government must ensure that no tress are beibg cut ilkegally. Though the current govt. has succeeded in controlling it a bit, still a long way to go.
The forest cover in India is very less, so we need to uncover the reasons for rapid deforestation in India.

Make the learning of environment studies more interesting by appointing faculty of same discipline or if needed change the contents of book.It should be a mandatory subject from class eight.
Moreover government need to encourage, recognise and offer financial help in the name of prizes to SHG,NGO,farmer group, some other group as well as individuals etc who work in this line.(government may introduce a prize on this day). The growing children of Assam will be greatly motivated.

Govt.can choose a theme for celebrating the day every year. For exampleif this year the theme is water then there can be awariness programmes on water conservation, strategies to recover water polluted water bodies, how to prevent water pollution, dumping of solid waste on rivers etc and a can implement some schemes to clean polluted water bodies.different competitions based on the theme can also be organised.Public awareness and participation is most important then the day can be successful.

Everybody talks about making changes, but nobody realy takes any initiatives to make the change..only introducing various schemes and suggestions will not help.. every person gives such nice ideas but there is not even a single person who talks about implementation of these ideas.Be the change to see the change. Before implementing any scheme or work or project awareness among the public is the most important step to take. The more aware the people the more usefull will be the ideas of green world

The main issue is not to clean areas or plant trees or give speech. The main problem is not caring, unethical, or unawarness among different sections of people in the society. If Govt.need to bring change its not only the duties and responsibilitiesof only Govt.It is equally the responsibility of every one of us.So to do this Govt.should organize different awareness programmes in different venues where environmental experts can talk on causes and con sequences, organising Streetplay, training program

Afforestation can be done both sides of the national highways as well as the PWD roads. school, colleges and other educational institutions and government office campuses should be made greener by planting trees basically fruit trees. when a student enter in high school in class V, he may be asked to plant a tree and the sole responsibility of that tree may be put on him for next six years. then within six year it is enough time to grow up the tree within the school campus.

Further to our earlier post we would like to add that banning of plastic bags etc would be in keeping with Prime Minister's " Swacch Bharat" mission. Clogging of drains and other water bodies in and around ghty is due to the callous attitude of the public in discarding plastic at designated places. We urge upon the Honourable CM to look into this very nagging and vital issue sympathetically. Jute bags /cloth bags can be substituted for the same.
