Chaolung Sukapha, the first Ahom king in Assam, established his kingdom in 1228. For nearly 600 years, Sukapha played a vital role in unifying the various indigenous ethnic groups of Assam.

On the occasion of Asom Divas on December 2, 2018, Directorate of Cultural Affairs in association with All Assam Ahom Sabha is organising an all Assam essay writing competition through MyGov Assam

Topic: Contribution of Swargadeo Chaolung Sukapha in the formation of Greater Assamese community

Last date of submission: November 22, 2018

Participants can submit their essays in either Assamese or English & send to assam.mygov.in

The competition has three categories:

Category A: Class IV- VIII

Category B: Class IX-XII

Category C: College/University level

Winners will be awarded cash prizes along with certificates.

First Prize: Rs 5000

Second Prize: Rs 3000

Third Prize: Rs 2000

Terms and Conditions:

• Word limit: 1500 words (maximum).
• Essay should be sent in PDF file of less than 10 MB
• One candidate can send only one essay
• Essay has to be original, not plagiarised
• Selection committee’s decision on quality of essays will be final
• MyGov Assam is not responsible for any rejected essay

Chaolung sukaphaa,also siu-ka-pha,
The first ahom king of medieval Assam, was the founder of the Ahom kingdom. A tai prince originally from mong Mao,the kingdom he established for nearly 600 years ago.Chaolung is generally associated with the name chao-'lord'and lung-'great'.He was born in Mong Mao.His full name is "chao-longhso-ka-hpa sukaphaa".His father's name was chaochang-nyeu and mother's name of was Blakhang sen.He followed and worshipped ancestors worship of phralung.
