Jitu Saikia and his friends have set up 'Majuli Agro-Hub' at Polongoni village in Majuli with support from Agriculture Dept. Having benefited from various Govt schemes, the group has motivated many others to give a shot at organic farming.

What is difference between organic and natural?
Organic foods are grown without artificial pesticides, fertilizers, or herbicides. Organic meat, eggs, and dairy products are obtained from animals that are fed natural feed and not given hormones or antibiotics. Natural foods are free of synthetic or artificial ingredients or additives.

Why organic farming is expensive?
Organic farming techniques yield anywhere between 30-to-50 percent less output. To make the same amount of profit, the produce is priced high. The supply, too, is low and the demand very high, naturally pushing the price up. In case of organic crops the risk of contamination by chemical fertilizers, pesticides, etc.

Why is organic better?
Compared with produce grown using usual (conventional) methods, organically grown produce has lower levels of pesticide residue. The safety rules for the highest levels of residue allowed on conventional produce have changed. In many cases, the levels have been lowered.
