Jitu Saikia and his friends have set up 'Majuli Agro-Hub' at Polongoni village in Majuli with support from Agriculture Dept. Having benefited from various Govt schemes, the group has motivated many others to give a shot at organic farming.

Due to growing population and increased demand many farmers are moving to commercial cropping with the help of government. Therefore there has been an increase in chemical fertilizer application. Pesticides are also used against pests and insects.

Organic farming is one of the ways to sustain and improve soil fertility. The production rate will be uniform will be in uniform for long period of time because of good soil health. Thus it will help the farmers to double their production following suitable cropping system.

How much land is needed for organic farming?
There are several schemes and subsidies favouring organic farming. With organic farming, the farmer need not have to bear the burden of expensive chemicals on their pockets. If you have two cows, you can handle six-10 acres of the farm. If you have one cow, then you can handle five acres of land, no manure is needed.

What is the difference between organic farming and natural farming?
