One of the best ways to maintain the soil in good health is to practice crop rotation among others. Alternating plants on a given field plot prevents soil exhaustion and breaks pest cycles, which will result in better agricultural output and, therefore, will increase the average crop yield per acre.

The most significant tool for expanding the scale of rural marketing is modern transportation and communication.

How can we improve the conditions of agricultural Labourers in Assam at grass route level?
1.Implement the Minimum Wage Act seriously.
2.By improve their bargaining power.
3.Create alternative sources of employment by developing small scale and cottage industries
in the rural areas.

How can I start organic farming in Assam?
Organic farming usually requires a transition period of three years to obtain a certificate so that the production system, if any, is free of chemical residues. Government should support to the small farmers for organic farming by way of financial assistance.

There are several set of technologies which are suitable for small and marginal farmers such as protected cultivation, beekeeping, mushroom cultivation, growing high value crops, nursery for planting material production, agri-horti tourism etc. to improve the farming in the areas of Assam.

What efforts have been made by our government to improve the condition of farmers as well as the yield?
The government has launched Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana in order to address the critical importance of soil and water for improving agricultural production. The government should support and improve the organic farming practices prevalent in Assam.

What steps should be done to improve the present state?
1.The govt should increase public investment.
2.Increase subsidies on agricultural inputs(fertilizers, HYV seeds)
3.Reduce import of agricultural products(rice and wheat)
4.Establish banks and give loan to farmers at low interest.
5.Encourage cultivation of high value crops along with cereals.

What are the farming activities in Assam?
Other food crops cultivated in Assam agriculture include jute, sugarcane, fruits, tea, pulses, coconut, potatoes, cotton and arecanuts. More than 50 percent of the total population of the state are involved in agricultural activities of Assam. Assam agriculture is now focusing on horticulture segment of the state.
