Every year in Assam, the recurring problem of flood and erosion causes huge loss to life and property in the State. With thousands of people left homeless in inundated areas and several hectares of agricultural land being destroyed, flood has left a huge dent in the socio-economic structure of the State.

With the objective of permanently solving the problem of flood and erosion in the State, Government of Assam has decided that dredging will be carried out in the riverbeds and tributaries of Brahmaputra and Barak from this month onwards. The Central Government has also directed a committee with a budget of Rs. 100 cr. to study the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries, so that a feasible solution could be found. This will help in strengthening the condition of existing embankments along with expanding rural connectivity.

The government of Assam seeks suggestions/inputs from its citizen to arrive at a permanent solution to control flood and erosion in the State.

Dredge of channel in Brahmaputra is the only option right now to mitigate some risk of erosion. Flood neither control it is a disaster which can be fight if proper action plan is in hand. The ship which will use in dredging of the Brahmapurta should be new and should not used earlier. Because if it is an used one in the sea water then that ships are already exposed to salt water for several days may be it depreciated 50% which may not have 100% potentiality to work done. Please have look at bel

Silting is a major problem for floods in Assam , due to hilly areas with lots of fast flowing rivers this is a major concern I think , every year river beds going up, we have to constantly monitor this situation and if possible have to dig out those silt s , with those silts we can make some higher grounds for safe shelter, and also relocation can be a permanent solution of damaging floods , every year same districts or people got affected by the floods , relocation will make some difference.
