With the entire world doing it's best to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, Govt of India has also put stringent measures in place to combat the fast spreading virus. Appeals have been repeatedly made to practise social distancing while staying at home. However, as we battle an unknown enemy, there are still a large number of people who are not regarding this crisis as a serious matter. As such, even after a lockdown is imposed, many people could still be found roaming around in the streets, paying no heed to the advisories laid out by concerned authorities. This poses a great risk to not only their own lives, but also the lives of others. Social distancing is of vital importance at this point of time and observing it strictly is our social responsibility.

UNFORTUNATELY, COUGH-ETIQUETTE IS VERY POOR IN OUR COUNTRY. PEOPLE RARELY USE HANDKERCHIEFS OR TISSUES TO BLOW NOSE, SNEEZE OR COUGH. SPITTING IS RAMPANT TOO. CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT AN UNKNOWN CARRIER OF THE VIRUS MAY INADVERTENTLY SPREAD THE INFECTION BY NOT FOLLOWING COUGH-ETIQUETTE, IT IS HIGH TIME THAT WEARING OF MASK BE MADE COMPULSORY IN BOTH HOMES AND PUBLIC PLACES. IF SURGICAL MASKS ARE UNAVAILABLE, EVEN A HOMEMADE MAKESHIFT MASK CAN MINIMIZE THE RELEASE OF DROPLETS.
