Every year on 5th of June, the world unites together to spread global awareness about various environmental concerns and bring about positive changes to protect our Mother Earth. A flagship programme of the United Nations with different themes every year, World Environment Day has been acting as a catalyst in raising awareness towards various environmental issues, climate change and global warming for more than 40 years. Keeping in with the same spirit of World Environment Day, Government of Assam on this wonderful day also strives to inculcate a sense of environmental consciousness in the people towards protection, conservation and restoration of our planet.
With the sole aim to foster and enable transformative changes, Government of Assam has taken up various initiatives in the past such as taking necessary steps towards making environment education a vital part of the school curriculum in the state, adoption of wildlife conservation initiatives, laying special emphasis on prevention of rhino poaching at Kaziranga National Park, planting of numerous saplings across the entire expanse of the state, encouraging the mass to practise sustainable development and also preserve the rich bio-diversity of the state for posterity.
On the occasion of World Environment Day on 5th June, Government of Assam is seeking suggestions and feedback and a roadmap from the citizens on ways to transform Assam into a greener, better and pollution-free state.

‘Connecting People to Nature’, the theme for World Environment Day 2017, implores us to get outdoors and into nature, to appreciate its beauty and its importance, and to take forward the call to protect the Earth that we share.
World Environment Day is the biggest annual event for positive environmental action and takes place every 5 June. This year’s host country is Canada.

* A massive plantation drive across Guwahati city especially in the hilly areas might be started with direct involvement of the locally residing people in those areas and with proper encouragement from the administration so that the local people would themselves be part and parcel of the drive, which would bears the seed of a beautiful and redeeming greenery that has already gone into past.

My suggestion are
1. Appoint dedicated environmental specialist in education system.
2. Govt. can consider to run vehicles of Ghy city with CNG for reducing CO2 emission. Already DNPL (Duliajan-Numaligarh Pipeline Ltd.)is having Natural Gas network upto Golaghat from Duliajan.
3. Giving subsidies to solar related supplies. It can boost people's interest towards solar panels, batteries, EV's,solar bulbs etc.
4. Plant traditional trees in roadside not invasive species like eucalyptus.

I want to suggest government of Assam to take some initiatives as a part of Sustainable Development goals of Govt. of India, by regulating some management strategies by the management of polluting industrial units for the benefit of environment. I think it will carry out job opportunities for environmental professionals of the state.
