Every year on 5th of June, the world unites together to spread global awareness about various environmental concerns and bring about positive changes to protect our Mother Earth. A flagship programme of the United Nations with different themes every year, World Environment Day has been acting as a catalyst in raising awareness towards various environmental issues, climate change and global warming for more than 40 years. Keeping in with the same spirit of World Environment Day, Government of Assam on this wonderful day also strives to inculcate a sense of environmental consciousness in the people towards protection, conservation and restoration of our planet.
With the sole aim to foster and enable transformative changes, Government of Assam has taken up various initiatives in the past such as taking necessary steps towards making environment education a vital part of the school curriculum in the state, adoption of wildlife conservation initiatives, laying special emphasis on prevention of rhino poaching at Kaziranga National Park, planting of numerous saplings across the entire expanse of the state, encouraging the mass to practise sustainable development and also preserve the rich bio-diversity of the state for posterity.
On the occasion of World Environment Day on 5th June, Government of Assam is seeking suggestions and feedback and a roadmap from the citizens on ways to transform Assam into a greener, better and pollution-free state.

WED is celebrated just for the sake of celebration only. By planting one or two saplings on that day.. nothing gonna change the world's. If in real sense the environment is to be change then we have to search for the person who has well knowledge and qualifications of Environment. And I think the students of #Environmental_Science deserve it. As they learn all the things associated with the environment. So there's need to chnge the Environment education system.

When all other issues are so well taken care of by our govt...so why not envt when our state is rich in natural resources? Since our existance depend on this..its high time that it is taken seriously..
This should not happend that all the env sc. post graduates and Ph.Ds go out of state for jobs..
The state must use these people for the development of its own.
So, the only way is to recruit them in faculty positions in schools, colleges.. Again, this is possible when this subject is included.

The gap between legislation and execution is the main drawback of every succeeding government. We cannot judge a person by his intentions alone. I hope the present government implements a good deal of what they said they will do.

Just like a five year old dog cannot be trained, same is happening to the people of Assam. Any teaching be it moral, environmental or anything should begin from school. We are how our teachers and parents have groomed us. For any programme to be successful, sensitization is necessary.
I find it disturbing to see a lot of heavy polluting vehicles still on the roads. How did they get pollution certificates. Illegal furniture industry is still on the large. Time to think about these issues.

“World Environment Day is giving a face to environmental issues while making people active agents of fair and sustainable development; raising the awareness on the importance of community in environmental action; promoting partnerships to ensure a safe, thriving future for nations and populations”. it's the aim of the WED.. so have to fullfil it!

For creating a green and pollution free Assam, the first thing is to educate the people about environment. This should be from school level and for that the subject of environmental science must be incorporated in schools and colleges and teachers of the subject be recruited.
