Our soil is our life giver. As we enter the monsoon season, soil erosion becomes a matter of grave worry for all, especially for people and livestock near hilly areas and river banks. If there is a loss in the fertile top soil, the productive capacity of the land gets compromised which in turn poses a huge risk to our food security. Some of the human-induced factors of soil erosion are felling of trees with deep roots to clear space for construction, deforestation, loss of vegetation, rapid urbanisation, etc.

Even though soil erosion is a natural phenomenon, we can reduce its impact by planting more trees and bushes which are good in holding the soil together, planting grass and creepers in and around farmlands and riverbanks, spreading mulch on bare grounds, building embankments, etc.

Share with MyGov Assam your take on how soil erosion can be minimised by plantation of indigenous trees along the riverbanks and hilly areas. You may also share any success story in this regard along with relevant photographs/videos.

Hollong, Neem, Sisoo, Khair, Sia-nahar is the plants easily available and suitable for the valley of Assam. These plants can be implemented for reducing soil erosion due to it's bushy root structure which ties soil layer and stabilize bank material.

Assam is the state heavily effected by soil erosion and and land land sliding. First of all government should indicate the zones effected by the same. Then build up forest in effected areas with bushy shrubs and wooden trees like Hollong, Mekai, Sisoo plants

Saplings of Peepal, Bel and Vatavriksha need to planted beside the water bodies, river banks so as to make the soil be held tight alongwith the deep roots of the future full-bloom trees and in turn SAVE the SOIL being destroyed and washed out due to the heavy current of the flood water in no time. People should take self-initiative to go for voluntary service to our Mother Earth and save the precious land area from any undesired destruction. Indeed, we can do it for our environment.

Ganjam District, Odisha- soil erosion is quite evident in rain season at mid of ten villages which are near to river Bansidhara in south Odisha causes no communication, bussiness, roads block, submerge of villages, cultivable lands etc. Immideately to address plantation is recomended and people of all nearby aggreed and has started. Now villages are happy that no soil erosion, effective communication, bussiness and villages are now doing organic farming, hoticulture and kitchen garden etc.
