With the arrival of autumn, a sense of festivities is round the corner and especially when the festival of Durga puja knocks the door. Durga Puja is no longer celebrated only in temples or confined to its rituals. Today, Durga Puja has taken shape of big festival which is being celebrated across communities and among various organisations. There has been an air of competitions among the Puja organisers in terms of their creativity in lightings, pandals or idols. In doing so the organisers seem to ignore or neglect the aspect of pollution and end up
risking the environment. So, to imbibe a sense of responsibility and true spirit of ethical Puja, ‘MyGov Assam’ is seeking suggestion from the citizen of Assam at large on how organiser can go for ‘Clean Puja - Green Puja’ to encourage the organisers of Durga Puja in Assam to demonstrate and maintain eco-friendly and hazard-free environment with their innovative themes and contribute to the ‘Swachha Bharat Abhiyan’

Correctly several people have written on use of natural material to make the idols, finishing colors included. Add to it the need to immerse the idols in deep water, not on the river bank or on the bathing steps of a pond. The Puja committees must include the cost of transporting the images to the deeper part of a river, lake or pond. Equally important is the responsibility of the Puja committee to clean up the Puja Mandap area after the tenth day.
