Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Assam
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department plays a significant role in facilitating socio-economic development in rural and semi-urban areas of Assam. A fast growth in this sector will help bring a higher productivity levels in livestock products along with increasing rural house hold income. With this aim in mind, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department is constantly working towards transforming itself into a powerful tool of socio-economic change in the state.
The chief objectives of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary include- reducing the mortality rate among livestock and birds by giving them timely veterinary services; increasing the production of meat, milk and eggs in order to boost up the protein production for human health; taking up quick preventive measures against different types of diseases; providing treatment to sick animals etc.
The Department also strives to generate self-employment opportunities and training programmes among unemployed youths through different types of farming.
