Govt of Assam in association with the Directorate of Archaeology has taken up an initiative of protection and preservation of Assam’s heritage through the Assam Heritage Preservation Act (Built Heritage).
The Act shall ensure identification of heritage sites, compilation, boundary demarcation, providing security, and protection & preservation through scientific methods.
The Act shall include archaeological and historical monuments, satras, ancient temples and religious institutions, cultural centres, social traditional institutions, artefacts, manuscripts and other materials displayed in museums.
The Act shall speed up processes of freeing up encroached land, land transfer and recognition.
