Assam has the potential of transforming it into one of the most sought after tourist destination in the National and International arena. Assam treasures not only exotic wildlife, awesome scenic beauty; mighty river Brahmaputra and its tributaries, lush green tea gardens, age old historical monuments but also it has rich culture, colourful fairs and festivals, various traditional and other sports , serene and tranquil country side and warm and hospitable people to arouse the tourist of all categories. The existence of all these unique and diverse tourist products in one particular destination is rear on the tourist map of the planet earth.
But, lack of publicity and inadequate reach out programme with this information to the potential domestic and international tourists and above all, negative publicity about the law and order scenario of this region have been major reasons for the hold back in this sector from flourishing. Therefore, the government of Assam is coming up vigorously to address these issues with topmost priority, considering tourism sector as a major source for generating employment and income for both rural as well urban Assam.
In this regard government of Assam is seeking innovative ideas from the citizen at large to brand ‘Assam Tourism’ to the prospective tourists in the national and international sphere.

One of the most important thing that needs to be done is promotion.
1. We have invested handsome amount of money on Priyanka Chopra, first step is OK. But these celebrities are much busy in their own life and struggles, so expecting them to be promoting tourism of Assam to the extent till which it is required is foolish.
2. We must invest in advertising Assam tourism in travel, train and flight magazines (such as recently, the one in Indigo). I have witnessed its impact on my co passengers.

I consider Assam to be one of the God's own abodes.I would suggest the 7 point themes for the tourists to be attracted.
The main attractions as per my suggestions :
1.Bhupen Hazarika and his songs & it's Hindi & English Renderings.(Theme song)
2.Kaziranga the heritage sanctuary.
3.The Tea Garden Experience in Upper Assam.
4.The Bird Suicide Mystery at Jatinga
5.The Royal Heritage of Sivasagar
6.The Aura of Kamakhya dham.
7.The Cultural Aspects of Bihu Dance & Food of Assam.

I am from Kolkata, West Bengal and I am very happy with my experience of the hospitality of Assam Tourism. However, there is ample scope of improvement. Human Resource is perfect and needs no improvement but infrastructure needs improvement. Road network should be better. For example the road from Government Tourist Lodge at Barpeta Road to the Entrance Gate of Manas National Park is in very bad condition. It is only 20 kms and therefore wont take much time and resources to build and maintain.

Pre-requisite to brand Assam Tourism is to develop minimum infrastructure in the selected tourist destinations, if not all tourist destinations.At least motor-able roads must be ensured in all tourist destinations at the earliest.
