Cinema is a very potent medium which has the power to bring about social transformation and awareness in the society. Besides providing entertainment to all, cinema has the ability to keep the cultural values of a nation alive among its people. It is a wonderful platform that binds people from various backgrounds with a universal appeal.
Coming to Assamese Cinema, the Assamese Film Industry is known for its groundbreaking films such as Jyotiprasad Agarwala’s Joymoti , Phani Sarma’s Piyali Phukan, Nip Barua’s Ronga Police, Abdul Majid’s Chameli Memsaab, Jahnu Barua’s Aparoopa and Xagoroloi Bohudoor, Bhaskar Hazarika’s Kothanodi etc to name a few. Besides bringing home several national and international laurels, many Assamese films have been critically acclaimed by critics and the audience alike. However, as time progressed, the Assamese Film Industry has been subjected to various shortcomings such as lack of proper infrastructure, sufficient number of cinema halls, sophisticated equipments etc.
The Assam Government is considering the scenario of the Assamese Film Industry as a very serious matter and working towards the betterment of this industry. The Government envisions of creating a favourable environment in the state which would help in the promotion of Assamese Cinema on a large scale, both nationally and globally.
As such, the State Government requests all the stake holders and the citizens of the state at large to put forward their suggestions on how to build proper infrastructure for promoting Assamese Films and be a partner in developing the Assamese Film Industry and taking it to new heights.

The assamese film quality is below standard due to low budget. People like entertaining movies. My suggestions is Assam govt should produce some film with good story.when people got more entertainment watching assamese film rather Hindi film. Automatically, regional film shines in the international arena.govt make compulsory to every cinema hall to telecast atleast 5 assamese cinema without tax.govt must encourage local people to produce assamese cinema.
