Assam has its share of women entrepreneurs, where, some of them have done exceptionally well and are being widely recognised nationally or globally. On the other hand, there are many of them who have been in the entrepreneurial venture silently, who may not be in the lime light or have a global presence but have become trendsetters and change-makers in their own right and sphere.

There are many such lesser-known women entrepreneurs in our society, who have broken the glass ceiling to set examples for the women folks and end up being in the process of nurturing national economy and inspiration for others. ‘MyGov Assam’ quests for stories of such silent and lesser known women entrepreneurs of Assam, whose tale of journey ignites the mind of thousands, who are yet to realise their potential within.

MyGov Assam requests citizen at large to send such stories along with relevant photographs which will be featured in the ‘MyGov Assam’ Portal/Social Media in celebrating International Women’s Day.

Women empowerment is the backbone of a nation's development. My suggestion would be to provide employment to the women in Assam & other north-eastern states. The ideal step to provide employment is to open cloth or hand loom factories where women can work & can earn money for their family. As cooking is also another specialty of women, there should be more hotels where women can work & can their living. As bamboo plantation is famous in the NE states, bamboo factories should be built to provide jobs.

【women’s role in a happy society】

Empowerment of women leads to development of a good family, good society and, ultimately, a good nation. When the woman is happy, the home is happy.

Women empowerment does not mean that separate silos need to be created for women. They need to be provided space to grow within the existing facilities. A case in point was the unwise creation of Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMB) which had to be closed down eventually. Capacity Building regarding entrepreneurial skills, reviews of the effectiveness of such programmes and feedback from struggling women entrepreneurs will help. Also showcasing of successful stories of women entrepreneurs will help.

Konoklota Mahila Urban Co-operative bank has been awarded by Nari Sakti Award by Central Government. When it comes to expand the branches to our locality, they said, they are limited by RBI norms of 100Cr deposit. As the bank is running Profit, govt should take bank guarantee for its expansion of area of operation. It will be bold step of the government for women empowerment to serve the state. They have 33000 valued customers. Hope in next budget Govt will Do the needful.
